[Matin d'hiver / Winter Morning]

MATIN D'HIVER
WINTER MORNING
Winter grew beneath the ancient sky
Whose light illuminated the roofs.
The plane trees along the frozen route
Scratch the night with their branches.
In the earth, other days slowly ripen
Chaotic beneath a tumultuous wind.
A well behind the shed doesn't know
If the stars will sputter in its waters.
A year is set aside, the earth is cold.
Who calls with an uncertain voice?
A pregnant ewe has given birth
In a metal shelter out on the moor.
