THE INVISIBLE LAYER
The day has worn in you already, and nothing
is ever effaced "just like that"
from the clumsy sketch: you rub it out
knowing that traces will remain on the paper.
Patiently, you must do it again,
to revive your own patience
and the sense of things, if you can,
because somewhere the fine layer
of underground water
which irrigated the day within you
has perhaps dried up
-day like limpid water
where images of the world settle lightly.
