Authority has played

in fabulous gardens, rain

watches with envy

the violence which accompanies that route:

the wind offers little resistance

against the splendor of a door

the unanticipated stands out

like a uniform known

by the intellect:

nothing is as intricate an affair

as darkness, antiquity is visible

from the tops of chimneys,

and the city watches over the wreckage

and memories so that stars

do not become the cryptography of wares

children are greedy about time

and remember with a strange pride

that every gesture carries their name.
