The Cure

People are insensitive. Unkind.
The Funny Farm, they call it,
The Laughing Academy.
Well, you did not find it amusing.
At all. Sometimes it was...
Well, whatever it was . . . boring?
A desolation. In the swell hotel
Fallen on evil days in the mountains
You have no words for what they do
To you on schedule first thing in the morning.
Now you are an empty bed, a vacancy.
Someone will have to pay for this.
You are coming down from the mountain
At last, a word burning on your lips.
They have made a desert and they call it peace.
Wherever you go you are going
To leave behind you that desolation.
