The Ritual
Each day I lure the hummingbirds
into the high meadows of
light, the white fields
flowering. A thousand
Beaks seeking sweetness
in a whir of tongues.
Such a beating of
wings stinging the air!
I can fit five birds
in one tight fist and feel
the fine hearts pump.
I'm light as air
and flowing honey,
wild with
the dark bloom of the world.
