The Song of Offspring

And as you wait for the enormous Sadness
to take his place upon that high-backed chair,
his three great heads, three jaws that would dismember
the future, present, past, as you prepare
cheeses and demijohns to dam his hunger,
distracting scrolls-your most tenacious labor-
to keep his eyes away from you, remember:
that monster is the son that we have fathered,
his form was born out of our love, our anger.
