From the New Window

Out over the white
windowsill the new snow
patterned by long shadows
from the clotheslines
& nearby saplings
beyond to where
the diminishing sun
brings a trough of light
to a depression, crusty
snow alive till
a cloud moves across
its grey form racing
through the dry swamp grass
still tall &
brown with winter
blanketing the field
the thorn-apple trees
grown wild
& black
till cloud collides
with a stand of green pine
near the edge of vision
