In the Cave of the Giant Despair

Too great for one small David, when he drew
His catapult's slack strap, no tumbling to
The ground, the skull-bone crumpled by a stone.
No David flung defiance. He, alone,
Beating on his breast-garments, turned a fold
Inside out, thumb bruised on the brass-cold
Key Promise. It had been there all the time.
