A Blind Wish for Randall Jarrell
Sometimes all the roads seem dark.
But in that darkness trees and animals
take slow shape under an enormous will.
The field between the lost world and the world
you gently foundered in is woods again,
the bearded man and boy in tennis shoes
now grow together in a single tree,
or run with the blood of a single fox,
leaping and falling in the deepening forest.
