Nice Things
I do not want what I want.
ROBERT CREELEY
For Jennifer O'Neill
Morning breaks in the photograph
Of her gentle position
Changing every edge
That the smooth lights enclose
In the dream of the dark
Universe pushing up through the weeds.
The five faces of the Arnel girl
Interrupt the fact that there was
Ever a hatred stronger than grace,
To be hurt, trapped
With such divided attention
Light does not show
A surface in which to turn
Around in the direction of her thoughts.
