Song from a Play

AN INDIAN PRAYER FOR GOD's GODS

Sor children

Tamalpais, take my part,

mind the fire inside my heart.

Sleeping giantess, secret charm,

keep my redwoods safe from harm.

Acts of God, and acts of men

set our world to rights again.

SONG FROM A PLAY

Walk lightly, love,

and timely prove

the print of earth

where falls your foot

is yours to take

and yours to give.

Where falls your foot

the print of dust

will mark the way

that, easily,

you pass today,-

and what of life

falls on your head,

or in your hand,-

or what the weight,

the prints show best

and deepest prove

when steps are high.

Walk lightly, Love.
