An Atmosphere
So turn to sky that does not drop a shadow,
Take breath in this warm night with body rising
As my eyesight travels deeper than lake water
This night reminds me of with every star
Seeming to ripple as waves make water mar
Reflected light I've followed on the water.
Till body settles on what mind chooses for it
My eyes must bank on clouds to fill the night.
I count on wind, not man, to drag forest
Onto the earth I range with my eyesight
As on lake water once: remember it
A star seen twice, a depth felt everywhere,
Night without one tree, an atmosphere.
