A Woman's Prayer

YEHUDA KARNI
A WOMAN'S PRAYER
Guard me, oh God, from the cold wind that blows,
From the scorching wind's harm
For the sake of the henhouse, the garden and the cow
In the barn:
Because from an old father and mother,
Fragile from the womb, you have taken me
To bring forth bread from meager earth
And fruit from a fig tree:
And because in love and silence I accept
All good and evil due:
The lowing of the cattle, the poorness of the crop
And that I am pregnant too.
