"Travail et Joie"

Outside the shutters, a gigantic palm
Crazes the glassy blue
Of a perpetually remoulded calm.
Inside, someone is happy. Flowers grow
Larger than life upon
A tablecloth whose creases hold the sun.
To look at pictures long is to grow sad.
A wintry hunger mopes
Beyond that table eloquently spread.
