SUMMER CAMP: WANE
HE peripatetic stars without any longer
T Their easeful hair;
The steppers over
The pepperwood.
Oh the people all are sleeping
Together as in a waltz.
Under the trees in cots
They idle their engines,
Away to the Hayward Hill the cars in pairs
Rise to a roar, wail -
Loose the wild country gone through:
Western billboard and buffalo
Leave to its fences.
And all night long without motor
The stars on the move:
Calypso, Juno, Gemini,
The former tenants, gone and handless -
Moved by the scenery movers and unvaulted
As seeds out of a new summer.
That pied priest who comes out of
Anything tearing its autumn up,
Wreaking its colors,
Is shaking his sleeves, is here.
