Instant before Sleep
A golden wheel
Pivoted to the core of consciousness;
And I the potter before a plastic mass
That swells beyond the hand
Out where images move restlessly
In a zig-zag void.
So the wheel turns,
An urn grows-
Its hungry lip pressed to oblivion-
Until potter, wheel, clay are one
Slowly thrust into the kiln of sleep.
