The Sea Fair

The wave comes in with lights like carnivals,
And tents itself upon the yellow floor,
Astonishing the bay with animals,
Bringing the lovers back to the sea fair.
The surf runs in the tunnel of love, my cave,
Loosing its beasts among my coral trees;
Shall I beware the lovers of their love?
In the dark, I sit holding my naked knees.
There are horses in the water by the jetty,
Wheels and whips in rings that mutter and rage,
And I wonder, will the beast or will the beauty
Be found, when morning comes, within the cage?
