She or Ariel

A TROJAN CHORUS
SHE OR ARIEL
There by the lake, among the risen swans,
He lay afraid of love that spoke
With the sad voice of Ariel
Unleashing the bound wind and the dawns.
There on the lake, with the water-lilies near,
The secret landscape in her face awoke
Mirrors in the reeds and a hidden cell
Singing flutes of enchantment in his ear.
There in a cave opposite the sea
Sapping the will in a tidal shell
That harnesses our potency,
He listened with trees on lawns of mist,
Till only Prospero could tell
If her or Ariel he kissed.
