The Wirewalkers
Here one by one on delicate horizons
Contriving every pace
They waste no grief on the black rock beneath;
Who must be plunged one moment to their death
Make every step momentous, every breath
Even and deep, and walk upright, and taste
Rather the clear mountain air, and feel
The wire's sharp assurance toe and heel,
Drawn singular in flesh and skill and pride
Advance upon the hour level-eyed.
