Holiday for Strings
Margot the Showman would smile at me,
And the caravan's key lay in Margot's palm-
O the couch in the corner tempted me,
For Margot was gipsy, with terrible' charm.
And now that my eyes are full of seas,
My love has leapt horizons, and it lies
Warm in my hands like oranges at noon.
-Now that my eyes are full of seas
My head's a holiow cave for tides,
And I am someone's skeleton . . .
Because my love my hands my oranges
Are props for Margot the Juggler.
But Margot the Showman has left the town-
The tent is folded, the animals fed-
And I will return to the camping-ground
With bucket and spade, to bury the dead.
