This Lonely Light

The illumined wonder
Will come when least aware.
Nor in the clap of thunder,
Nor the foot on the stair,
It will not stop the pulse
Nor draw you under.
In the quiet morning
In the ordinary cold,
Like an inner meaning
Suddenly beheld,
A radiance that belongs
To no night or dawning.
To no night
Lunar, astral, stellar.
No celestial, bright
Internecine splendor.
Caverned in your mind
Burns this lonely light.
