If I had to begin again
The long diversions of my pen
Id hope a blesseder bestowal
Than the style of Amy Lowell;
Would order my first poems done
By Ralph Waldo Emerson.
Here after eight and twenty years
Of life, and half of them of verse,
I try now to become a man
And so a poet. What I began
By Brookline's lush, ancestral trees
I'd end in Concord's wintry freeze,
