Vestige
I told you of that upturned earth,
A bird's wing or a fan;
It might have been an animal,
It might have been a man.
The snow-cold sun
Set behind the hill,
Ironically surveying
The kill.
I suppose it's all
In a man's duty
To stamp out life
And to scare out beauty.
