Lake Cycle

The rock-encinctured bay,
Small peak and precipice -
Upon my cheek the spray
Melts like a kiss,
And in my heart a hope
Hypnotic ranges,
Born of the water-scope's
Unchanging changes.
Heart, where impending night
Lies like a cancer,
Here in the steely light
Look for your question's answer.
The wave becomes enough,
Collects, capsizes ;
Out of its smoking trough,
Green-white, the phoenix rises.
End is begun again,
Begun is always ending.
Falls like the fall of man
Make their own mending.
