Complete Sight

A painter needs no more
than partial days:
he seizes all his store
from sun's quick ways,
withholds but moments from time's tall door,
and seducing them stays.
But poets, more greedy, must
have all of light:
they put their pagan trust
in the complete sight,
the whole of time's soft sensuous flight
and glide and thrust.
Theirs the more flowing, reaching right,
more lingering lust.
