A Painted Scroll of Summer
Between the sunburnt fields of grain
The feathered pear-trees step in rows,
And bluer than its jeweled name
The sand-pent sapphire water blows.
Along a ridge the angled pines
Repeat their inky accent lines.
Here is a birch-tree like a bird;
Bertha Ten Eyck Fames
There a white heron like a tree
Stands in the shallows quietly.
But when a sudden voice is heard
The heron curves its wings to fly
And blossoms on the sunny sky.
WHAT USE
"No kinsman o'er the crooked ways
Greet me as once in Yung-Yang."
