Men Praise Mountains
Men praise mountains
In long slow lines,
And birds in the white air
Making clear designs.
These things are lovely,
But I cannot forget
A beauty born of slag-dust
And human sweat-
The pattern of a derrick,
Etched in smoke,
Coal barges winnowed
By the search-light's stroke.
