Revelation

I should have known,
When we disagreed about the color of the shadows in the
snow-
I said they were bright indigo-
And you laughed and kissed me;
I should have known,
When you brought me books with bright paper jackets,
And when I mentioned Shelley, and you laughed and
kissed me;
I should have known,
When you brought me a heavy gold bracelet
For my small supple wrist, . . .
That you were not the one.
But you silenced my mouth with your incessant kisses,
My eyes became like empty windows seeing nothing,
Knowing only the force of the wind
That blows through them shaking the frames.
