         [WATER ONLY LOVES THIS LAND
                 ONCE IN A WHILE]

Water only loves this land once in a while
It pays attention to the sliver of moon and waits in the
  heart of the wind.
Prayers rise to heaven stolen by the sun.
What strong desire to sleep beneath the tree,
your horse left in the prairie,
to dream the world as far as . . . where?
To rip away at the too-long days where all is drought,
to paint the prospects behind our poverty,
and to signal to the roaming men to come back home.
