I coltelli / The Knives

I COLTELLI

   «Be'?» mi fece.
    Aveva paura. Rideva.
D'un tratto, il vento si alzö.
    Lalbero, tutto intero, tremö.
    Schiacciai il grilletto. Crollö.
    Lo vidi, la faccia spaccata
    sui coltelli: gli scisti.
    Ah, mio dio. Mio Dio.
    Perché non esisti?

         THE KNIVES

"Drink?" she said.
 She was afraid. She laughed.
 Suddenly the wind rose.
All of a piece the tree shook.
I squeezed the trigger. She dropped.
I looked at her, face sliced
on the knives: it was split.
 Ah, my god. My God.
 Why do you not exist?
