For a Still-Born Child

Lost among immediate creaks chirrups wrong sounds
Thumbkin among shadows cried out to see the sudden bird
Fly like knives out of treedark into the tall light, up
Beyond, so blue The word
He cried was There! and there, true to the violent shy
Blaze of a bird, he found father Father; in one winged rush
His infant heart took truth's immutable direction
And he hurried home, amid the forest's hush.
