Statement for Adonis

Don't be put off with inferior imitations.
Insist on the genuine archetype.
The experience insists
Out of its law
And in cerebration
That the gardenias of the world are liars
Ennobled in applause from pin to pogrom.

To slide
Down a catastrophe into existence
Boar-like in monasteries,
Degraded in a trench of tusker fury,
While the wounds weep
On the harness of my loving.
The sky for you is dark and the flesh of the foam
Fled on her lips like breezes.
The bride for you is dark and the flooding
Of her face is no calamity, no harvest.
The sun for you is dark as you have suffered.
Out of the prison of tongues,
You on the arrow of silence
Find only freedom where the dead are trusting.

Always land where the seas are broken.
Land 'where the woman's flesh
Is given to your eyes. Land where the bridges
Sever your country from improvidence.
Land is the prison

Which you cannot escape.
Because you are yourself
You cannot be redeemed from blood or history.

Therefore the action of my love grows inward
Poisoning, reaching down to roots and silence.
