The Two Voices

Two pulses sound: that muted thunder,
These shrilling strings as light as gauze.
Under and over, over and under,
Ocean rolls sorrow in his claws
And growls at his poor feast. A savage,
He does not note the incessant keen
Thin song, where, high above his ravage,
The cricket shakes its tambourine.
