Face Alive

TWO POEMS

               FACE ALIVE
Her senseless face, still living mortally,
Stares now with eyes too far away to see
What honor may have been or grace or love
Or anything that they were quickened of.

It is not death, this open-mouthed decay,
This aged face with nothing more to say:
It is not death but a good life's reward
And testimony to the unknown Lord.
