City Easter

Lilies sicken
By the altar rail -
The deacon's face
Is lily pale.

Under the jeweled furs
Of the rich and stout
The last wee spark
Of God goes out;
And little souls
Of the "Lord's election"
Have thrilled again
To resurrection.
