Wailing Lynx

What cry-from out the moonlit blue of wood-
That lays the jagged crimson of a scar
Upon the face of this dark solitude
 And stabs each pallid star!
What eerie terror this, that starts and spills
Its tones from out the mountain's naked heart-
Whose echoes ricochet among the hills
 And cleave the sky apart!
