Black Water

I pulled the covers up over my head:
The noise of the clock, ticking,
Was like the sound of black water
Dripping, dripping, dripping
Into a cold black well.

Will Time sound thus
Upon that sudden night of shrouded moon
When over my head the coverlet of earth
Is drawn by bony fingers
Against the final sleep?
